A bit of Mexico

April 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The Hippo’s latest issue, April 17-23, 2008, is hitting the streets now, but here are a few extras:

Husband and wife, Pablo Paredes and Enriqueta Rosales of Tlaquepaque, Mexico, demonstrate Olmec and Aztec artwork techniques during the Margaritas Mexican Restaurants Education Outreach Program. Meet them between 4 and 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at the Nashua Margaritas or the Manchester Margaritas Wednesday, April 23.

Artists discuss what abstract art is at the new Underground MAP Project, 76 Lowell St. in Manchester, Friday, April 18, from 6 to 10 p.m. Ten works by Mike Sugrue are featured, plus work by Frances Mark, Tara Rousselle, Jason Bagatta, Kristen Marsh, Jaime Grady and Dave Hatch. Birdorgan and Project Other People provide sound.

Don’t wanna grow up? Hasbro Games art director Mike Swiatlowski talks about game and toy development, at Revolving Museum April 19.

Revolving is also starting a few adult art classes, but for closer opportunities, call E.W. Poore (622-3802) or stop by the gallery at 531 Front St. in Manchester where classes start in April. There’s cartooning with Larry White, portraiture with Sue Zylak, photography with Ron Bowman, plus artists Jeanne Lachance, Mary Buergin, Kim Roth, Jeff Hebert and Frank Moulin teach drawing, watercolor, acrylic, oil and pastel. Most sessions are eight weeks and cost about $120.
If you are an artist looking for marketing inspiration, there’s a free talk called “What Artists Need to Know” at New Hampshire Art Association hosted by Joan Nyman, faculty member of the DeCordova Museum School April 23.
